If you and I are on the same page, there are 3 ways to get started on Google:

1.) Buy a website that is already getting a lot of traffic (of which you will pay thousands of dollars for) and place Google ads on it. Or,
2.) Buy clicks from the many venders including Google and send the traffic to your website. This is called arbitrage and seldom pays off. Or,
3.) Construct a niche website, that focuses on the target keyword, has the keyword phrase in the url, get great organic positioning with Google and you will have a winner that pays every day. This is a time consuming issue or you have happened to be ahead of the curve and secured a keyword targeted url, have tons of virgin text on it and Google places you #1 under the keyword search and on page one.

There are no short cuts. If you are selling a product on your website and you place Google ads on your site that is aligned with your custom keywords for your product, then the Google ads that show up will have all your competitors listed. You can make a few cents from the Google ad and never see the prospective customer again or leave the ads off your selling page retaining an edge to sell the visitor your product. Google Adsense doesn’t always make sense for every website.

Many webmasters have made “directories” for every imaginable topic and some have made very good money with these website directories. However, Google has begun to penalize directories for having no content. Most directory content has been “scraped”, (copy and pasted) from the website that the directory lists.

GOOGLE WANTS TEXT! Not any text will do, it must be virgin text, (originally written text never posted on the www), that is keyword rich, (2.5 to 4% populated with pertinent topic keywords), posted to a website with regularity. This shows Google that the site is not abandoned, but is maintained and current. Google will always reward a website that follows this prescription.

Google designed its search engine for information websites, not directories or marketing websites. However Google will reward a marketing site if there are numerous pages of virgin text on your site. Build it and they will come!

What is a list? Do I need a list? How do I make a list?

What is a list? An opt-in email list is a collection of emails from people that visited your website and chose to give you their email address in exchange for goods or services such as a newsletter, free software, blog updates, or a promise of future delivery of a product or service such as an e-book or mentoring.

Do I need a list? Every website should have an opt-in email list application that will allow for future free traffic. Traffic is the heart of a website. No traffic equals a broke owner. Free traffic is very valuable but takes effort to create. If you pay for instant pay per click traffic, your profit margins are less in order to pay for the traffic coming to your website. Free traffic from your email list will always outperform pay per clicks or purchased email list. Your website’s future success depends on your ability to convince visitors to your website to sign up (by giving a name and email address) on your opt-in form. If you think you can wait to put on your list capturing form, you are losing money every minute that you wait!

Free traffic that is generated by you the web owner is more dependable than pay per clicks and targets your exact market. Free traffic from your opt-in email list will pay great dividends for years to come.

How do I make a list? Opt-in Email Marketing is the marketing campaign of the hour. Up to ½ of your monthly income can come from your Opt-in Email Marketing campaign.

• Place your email collection form in a convenient place.
• Capture first name and email address only.
• Be sure and give substance and value for the time of sign up.
• Use a hover form, not a pop up as pop ups are seldom seen with pop-up filters so prevalent today.
• Have the hover form appear after the visitor has been on your site for 60 seconds. Make sure it does not appear again to the IP address for 6 months.

Your list is captured and stored in a databank on your website or with a databank service. ( like aweber.com) From the databank you will be able to mail to the list of emails, special offerings, sales, announcements, news and tips. Make sure that every email contact is not a money transaction. Give good content between offers, for FREE! Start your list gathering efforts today, don’t wait, your list will one day be more valuable than Google page rank. Free traffic email list is a progressive action, always try to improve. Strive to get 10% sign up. If you are getting less than 10% of your visitors signing up, CHANGE the EMAIL LIST FORM! TEST your efforts to gather emails. Look at your web stats to determine what your daily visitor count is. Web stats are available in CPanel of your linux or windows server. The best web traffic stats I have found are AWSTATS. This is a most valuable tool to create free traffic email list!

• You might have competition that gives free shipping.
• Your item might cost the customer more than the shipping.
• Your product may be an e-product that can be shipped by e-mail, for FREE!
• Your product may cost more than a similar item in a store if you charge for shipping.
• The shipping may be the determining factor that prevents your product from selling.

In answering the question of “how do I charge for shipping for my online business?”, I have had to deal with every issue above! My competition did give free shipping. So I gave a price that was a few cents less than the competition with a free gift. I could control the price of the free gift (which can be more of the same product) but you have no control over postage, freight, tariff, fuel costs etc.

Many times I have sent a product out that the cost of postage exceeded the product. My first exposure to this was with E-Bay. I have since found that if you are filling a niche of need, and your products are not at K-Mart, hence the postage is incidental when it comes to finding and receiving a product of need. I also saw a trend that the postage expense was “evident” but not a true concern of the buyer. Here is a tip to remember. IF YOUR COST TO SHIP IS $8.95, DO NOT CHARGE THE CUSTOMER $15.00 “shipping and handling”! Your customer will remain your customer out of loyalty, but if you “cheat” them over a “handling charge” they will not trust you again! You say you have an expense in a shipping box and packing materials? Incorporate these incidentals into your costs of goods.

If your products are e-books or software that can be sent via e-mail, you can definitely advertise “free delivery” not free shipping.

If you happen to have a product that also is available on a store shelf, remember, not many can get to the store for free! I watched the bookstore industry shrink to almost non-existence in San Diego County. Knowing the owners, I asked what are you going to do? (The bookstores closed by the dozens.) The bookstore owners all told me that they were moving the used books to their garages. (The square foot rent rate had become too much for the California bookstore venders.) From their garage the bookstore operators placed their books on E-bay. Paperback and hard cover books selling for $4.50 on E-bay would cost OVER $4.50 for Priority mail, THE NUMBER ONE CHOICE OF THE BUYER! Media mail rate is a fraction of the cost, but the buyers did not want to wait 2-3 weeks to get their new purchase!

I HAVE NOT SOLD A SINGLE PRODUCT THAT A BUYER WOULD NOT BUY BECAUSE OF THE PRICE OF SHIPPING. If you feel that shipping will prevent a person from buying your product, then test the market. Place the product up for sale and see if customer will buy. After the customers buy, ask them if the shipping cost was a factor. THEY WILL TELL YOU.
Remember, you are in a niche market. Your product can not be found at Wal-Mart, your customer may live across the nation or in another nation. The price of fuel IS A FACTOR if your customer has to drive to pick up a product similar to yours. Rising fuel costs now more than ever promotes the shipping of your product to them. In most cases, it is cheaper to mail your product than for the customer to drive downtown and back home again.

The customer is willing to pay to have their purchase sent to them ASAP with the convenience of having the product delivered to their door. Note: Always ship in an expeditious manner. I SHIP six days a week. If an order comes in at 3:00 PM, I get it in to the post office by 4:30 when it closes. This is good business practice and is the best way to build and keep good customers!

So, how do I charge for shipping for my online business? Charge only the amount that will show up on the package, add a gift or bonus if you have competition, keep a few cents under the competition and ship the same day as the order arrives.

My first product sold online was antique dishes that I bought on E-bay and resold on E-bay. Over the years I had bought antique books on dishes that I was interested in collecting and had become knowledgeable on the subject. I bought dishes all year long but I bought most of the dishes in the summer the day after school ended until the day school started. A lot of e-bay lookers would be busy, traveling, or distracted from the computer. Buy knowing my product I was able to buy at a lower than usual price and sell for more profit after school began again in the fall. E-bay is a great place to find out what the market will bear when you want to sell an item. A word of caution, if you do not know your product WELL, you will not be able to buy on e-bay and then resell on e-bay and make a profit! However, this approach can be used to make money immediately!

How do I find products to sell on the internet, first I never quit looking. If I am traveling, if I attend a party, or public function I am ALWAYS searching for a product to sell online. I attend trade shows for: gifts, electronics, weddings, gourmet foods, games, and toys just for ideas for products to sell. In almost every safari you will find a “treasure” that has been overlooked by the mainstream and can work well for a product on your website. If you can buy it at Wal-Mart don’t consider it for your product!

I attend county fairs, arts & crafts shows and auctions to look for products, ideas and trends of product sales.

Liquidators will occasionally have items that you can buy for resale but are candidates for E-bay as when that particular source runs out, you no longer can supply the same product and if you found it elsewhere you could not offer it for the same price.

I continually ask myself the question, how do I find products to sell on the internet, or how do I find more products to sell on the internet?

1.) Make a list of all your possible products that you have found, do not cull any.
a.) Determine your cost and the price the market will bear.
b.) Find more than one source for the product if possible.
c.) Determine how much need there is for the product in relationship to how much money you can make from each sale.

• Example #1: product sells for $1.00 your profit is $0.50 and there are 25 searches a day on the entire internet for your “new” product. This would not be a good product to leave on your list.
• Example #2: this item sells for $300.00 your profit is $150.00 and there are 25 people that search the internet a day for your widget/product. This product in this example would remain on your products prospect list.
• Example #3: you have found a product that you can sell for $40.00, your profit is $20.00 and 1600 individuals a day are looking for it. This is an excellent nominee for an internet online product!

2.) Find a niche that has a need and supply a product within that niche.

• a. A niche can be a service, a physical product, or an e-product (e-books, cds etc).

There is more demand for physical products online than there ever will be for e-products. Either one is acceptable; choose one type of product to get started.
3.) You need a product that you can buy to resale for at least 45% profit. Or you may want to manufacture the product or do the proposed product/service yourself.

• Find a niche market. Supply a product that satisfies a need.
• Do your market research; decide what you can sell to whom. You can get an idea of what to sell by polling kids your age on “what are they buying with their money?” You may not want to market to your age group, (ALTHOUGH VERY LITTLE MARKETING IS AIMED AT 13 YEAR OLDS ONLINE, this is your cue that this is a niche market, ideal for exploiting in your online business!)
Tip:
You may choose an item that is not real expensive to sell (or to buy).

• Choose a domain name that most describes your product (see my tips on choosing a domain name before you decide to buy). Buy the domain name from godaddy.com
• Host your online business website from a free hosting service, I usually do not recommend a free host for an online business, but in your case you need to earn money before you have to pay out money. When you start earning money YOU WILL NEED TO CHANGE TO A HOST that you will have to pay (maybe $5 a month).
• Design your website! Start with Wordpress Blog, this will allow you to build an online business website with no experience! Pictures sell! Poor pictures cause customers to run from your site, remember this when you are tempted to post a cell phone image! You need a header image, and a couple of side bar images to start. These images must be relevant to your product! Get some tips from a photographer.
• Write the text for your website. (An English teacher could proof your text for grammar, punctuation and spelling, only, as he or she is not an expert at online business!) NEVER SAY WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE! Always remember your text is going to tell a simple story to the reader in which the story answers ONE QUESTION to the reader: “What’s in it for me?” You do not say in your text, “Here is what’s in it for you…”. A better story would be, “this gizmo twirls allowing you to wow your friends into doing your homework!” Include a money back guarantee.
• Include a list builder on your site that the visitor can opt-in with their email address (see my list building tips). Your online business can appeal to any age group as well as 13 year olds.
• You are now ready to ask the customer to buy your product. PayPal is the best solution for you in this case, however you are going to need help as it involves having a credit card. Wait before you jump to conclusions because you don’t have a card of your own.
• Once you have your website proofed for grammar, pictures posted, product chosen, market research DOCUMENTED, you are ready to show the world that you have put together a professional website that targets a need by niche people, and that you have found a product that will solve their needs, and your website doesn’t disclose how old you really are, then you are ready to show this to mom and dad, or your grandparents, or aunts and uncles or some adult you trust that is willing to assist you with the PayPal account. DO NOT SHOW THIS TO EVERYONE LISTED ABOVE! Only show your site to each one separately until one of them agrees that they will help you. You will have demonstrated responsibility, ability to follow instructions and desire to succeed by getting to the point of asking for help. Your parents should be impressed. Here is how much they should be impressed. More than 99.9 % of ALL 13 YEAR OLDS will NEVER think outside the box as you have to create your own income at this age! I’m very impressed that you have left your games and friends to enter into the biggest game ever, MAKING REAL MONEY! Have the cardholder sign up for a Papal account. You may then incorporate a “Buy it Now” button on your website and start taking orders. You will get an email from Paypal saying who bought, their address and how much they paid. You now send the product (I suggest the post office with DELIVERY CONFIRMATION)!
• You now need to get traffic to your website. Tell your friends you found a cool website, NOT YOUR WEBSITE, (as they will get jealous and not buy knowing you will make money off them) and start listing your website with social bookmarks, the more the better as long as you include KaBoodle, ThisNext, Digg and Stumble Upon (research the top 10).
• Write a new post on your website EVERY 3 DAYS, if you miss a post, make it up, research your product, write about it in your own words, let your site be the expert on the “gizmo”!
• Always deliver an ordered product FAST, always refund a return (using Paypal), talk to an accountant for financial tips and book keeping (if you know this person in advance, they will be impressed with your tenacity!)

This is online business, you will need to work at succeeding. This is no autopilot business where you set it up and forget about it. This business can grow to thousands of dollars a month and has for at least two other 13 year olds, you can be the next 13 year old online business magnet!

Look like you know what you are doing on your online business website, BECAUSE YOU DO! Just because you are 13 years old don’t believe the lie that adults claim to be truth, “I can’t do online business…”, follow the instructions diligently, refer to all tips mentions and continue to educate your self on how to start internet marketing and online business start up. If you are planning on some serious internet marketing then get your own dedicated server. A host server can have 100 other websites on the same hard drive as your business, with 100 novices trying to tweak their site for better results, AND MANY TIMES THEIR ACTIONS CRASH THE SERVER!!! While the server manager is trying to find the problem by brail, (because the culprit that caused the problem will never volunteer his or her mistakes) YOUR SITE WILL BE DOWN and visitors coming to your website will get a very unprofessional error that says “Internet Marketing Guru is too cheap to pay for professional tools!” Not really, but when your website is down your business is not seen, you are losing money and you have no control on when your website will be back up!

Ok, so now it is time to contact the server manager. You will be overjoyed when you discover this phantom person can only be reached by email. Phone is just a recording. Yes it is true this person is away on business in Switzerland… my server is in Houston… the manager won’t be back for 3 days…7 hours later and the fourth email proclaims that he has got someone local that is going to drop by and reboot the server… oops, I know you have been paying for a backup hard drive on your server but the server and the backup drive have been erased accidently… my true story!

When I first started out I paid $45 a month to a host server with 83 other websites on the same server. Next I shared a server with two other website owners for $95 a month. Now I pay $350 a month for 2 servers that I share with no one!

The online shopping has allowed the customer to search and find a product of interest, then compare that product to similar products and prices without leaving the computer (home). This convenience has thousands wondering How to start Internet Marketing. The “window” of opportunity is wide open. Never has there been a universal HUGE market for whatever you are selling as there is today. Never has the prospects for your sales been so easy to contact, therefore enabling a sale.

By 1997 my company had grown to $100,000.00 a month selling and shipping a specialty computer product. One of my first online customers was the White House… $125,000.00 sale. My second online business was E-bay sales totaling $120,000+ in sales the first year. My first Google Adsense Account earned a maximum of $1500.00 in one month. Since December 1, 2004 I have averaged $580 every month. Google has paid my truck payment for 4 years! My next internet business was a nutrition company that still sells $75,000 a year in physical products.
